Account Deletion

Last updated: 4 May 2026

This page explains how to delete your Ombok account, what happens when you do, and what we may retain.

Delete from inside the App

The fastest way to delete your account is from the app itself:

  1. Open Ombok and sign in if you aren't already.
  2. Go to the Profile tab.
  3. Scroll to the bottom and tap Delete account.
  4. Read the confirmation dialog and tap Delete account to confirm.

Your account is marked for deletion the moment you confirm, and you will be signed out. Erasure of the underlying data completes within 30 days (see "What Is Deleted" below).

Account deletion is permanent and cannot be undone. There is no grace period or recovery window. Signing up again later with the same email is a fresh account, not a restore.

If You Can't Access the App

If you have lost access to your account (for example, you have forgotten your password and no longer have the device), you can request deletion by email instead:

  1. Email privacy@ombok.app from the email address registered to your account.
  2. Use "Account deletion request" as the subject.
  3. In the message, include your account email and, if you know it, your handle.

We verify your identity from the matching email address and confirm by reply, typically within a few business days. Once verified, deletion follows the same 30-day timeline as the in-app flow.

What Is Deleted

The moment a deletion is requested, your account is marked for deletion: you are signed out, your session tokens are revoked, and push notifications stop. Within 30 days, the following is erased from our systems:

In huddle waves with other contributors, your audio is replaced with a placeholder so the wave keeps working for them. Your name, handle, and avatar appear as a deleted-user placeholder.

We also instruct our third-party processors (email delivery, push notifications, analytics, crash reporting, object storage) to delete or anonymise the data they hold on our behalf. Their own retention windows apply where shorter retention isn't technically feasible.

Trust & Safety Review

If there are unresolved abuse reports against your account when you request deletion, your account is still marked for deletion immediately, but the final erasure of the underlying data is held until our trust-and-safety team has reviewed those reports. Once the review is complete, erasure proceeds and the 30-day window applies from that point.

What We May Retain

Some information is retained after account deletion, either because it is no longer linked to you, because it is required to operate the Service safely, or because the law requires us to keep it:

Full retention details are documented in our Privacy Policy (§6).

Deleting Specific Data Without Closing Your Account

If you want to remove only certain data and keep your account, you have two paths:
